The conference has been organised by RMC and Bremen University of Applied Sciences / Faculty V - Centre of Maritime Studies. It took place under the patronage of Admiral Efthimios E. Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and incorporated the 34th Annual General Assembly of the International Federation of Shipmasters’ Associations (IFSMA). In the aftermath of the disastrous events of September 11, 2001 the international shipping community has put focus on the ship/port interface by introducing the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. But the ship/port interface as the point, where a ship is directly and immediately affected by actions involving the movement of persons and goods or the provisions of port services to or from the ship, is not only of interest from a security point of view. Aspects such as number and quality of available workforces, health and social conditions of work, reasons for and prevention of incidents and accidents are just a few additional topics which are of common interest to both parties of the ship/port interface. It has been the intention of the 1st International Ship Port Interface Conference (ISPIC 2008) to provide answers to the entire maritime industry on how to ensure through a human being centred work philosophy safe, secure and efficient future operation at the ship/port interface. Besides paper presentations by experts from all over the world, having experience with all kinds of different transportation systems, a technical exhibition was arranged in order to provide a range of information on the scope of the conference as diversified as possible to the delegates of this special meeting. The conference language is English. Click here to download the final ISPIC 2008 – Conference Programme. Furthermore, the conference has led to a resolution, which can be downloaded here: ISPIC 2008 – Conference Resolution and which is distributed through the conference organisers and IFSMA to IMO and other involved parties.
